Schwan's Salina plant has many waste streams but this project focused on those with the most significant potential environmental or financial impact. Two projects were accomplished, a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Chemical Room Audit and the Waste Control Project.
Implementation of Battery Recycling Program, Aerosol Container Recycling, and Parts-Washer Solvent elimination resulted in more than $86,000 in savings, 3,000 pounds per year of hazardous waste reduce, and 1,500 pounds per year of solid waste reduced.

Contact adhesives, painting, inventory control, lighting, and filter systems at wood sanding tables have combined to greatly reduce VOC and HAP emissions, save money, reduce hazardous waste generation, and save labor.
