What's it about?

This program helps southeast Kansas facilities identify and research opportunities to reduce waste generation, water use, and associated material/disposal costs.

The goals of the program include:

  • On-site technical assistance visits
  • Answer waste and water-reduction related questions (phone/email)
  • Form an ongoing pollution prevention-focused network/partnership for southeast Kansas

Who can participate?

Facilities (industries, institutions, municipalities) located in one of the 15 counties in southeast corner of Kansas are eligible to participate in the Greening Southeast Kansas Initiative.  (City population must be less than 10,000)

Eligible counties: Anderson, Allen, Bourbon, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Crawford, Elk, Greenwood, Labette, Linn, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson, and Woodson.

This initiative is paid for through a USDA Solid Waste Management grant and provides environmental assistance to rural areas, helping identify methods of reducing waste generation and water use. Efficient use of materials is good for the environment, saves money, and can extend local landfill life.
