The Small Business Environmental Assistance Program's mission is to help Kansas small businesses comply with environmental regulations and identify pollution prevention opportunities. Types of AssistanceThe Pollution Prevention Institute (PPI) is housed within the College of Engineering at Kansas State University. Started in 1989, PPI is dedicated to serving Kansas businesses and organizations in environmental and pollution prevention technical assistance. Entirely grant-funded, PPI provides a number of services: Environmental regulations assistanceK-State PPI operates the Kansas Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP) whose goal is to assist small businesses (approximately 100 employees or fewer) with understanding and complying with environmental regulations. Pollution prevention assistanceFunded through various grants from the EPA, KDHE, USDA, and Department of Energy, PPI serves as great resource for assisting in furthering your pollution prevention goals. Intern programThe PPI intern program pairs top-level engineering and environmental science students with Kansas business and industry. PPI recruits, hires, trains, and mentors interns who work on-site at the Kansas facility for 10 weeks during the summer.
Resources, training, and workshopsEach year, the K-State PPI hosts various webinars and workshops on specific environmental regulations and pollution prevention. PPI also develops and updates environmental tools and publications; all are located here on our website. StaffThe Pollution Prevention Institute has full-time staff with a wide variety of expertise available to provide assistance. Learn more about our staff. EmploymentPollution prevention specialistSpecialists work with PPI interns; conduct on-site environmental compliance, solid waste reduction and pollution prevention opportunity assessments; develop and present videos, webinars and training seminars; provide individual assistance by telephone and written correspondence; research regulatory and pollution prevention issues; edit websites; and write publications. Other duties include writing proposals for continued funding; participating in networking opportunities with other assistance providers locally and nationally; and promoting Engineering Extension, PPI, the Kansas SBEAP and other programs to appropriate audiences and stakeholders. Learn more and apply Environmental technicianFull or part-time environmental technician works with PPI specialists on various projects related to industrial environmental compliance, sustainable material management, and pollution prevention. Technician will do various project support work including helping schools with food waste audits and education, assist with a clean water needs survey, development of compliance assistance calendars and publications, data management, and some field work with other specialists. Collaborations focus on projects to reduce energy use, emissions and wastes, benefiting the company bottom line and the Kansas environment.
